Welcome to the Team, Nicky!

GAP is excited to introduce our latest member of the team. Nicky is our new National Events Coordinator who will continue the great work of Denis. She will coordinate GAP's event calendar nationally as well as guide and support our amazing team of volunteers nationwide who organise GAP walks and attend all sorts of events like A&P shows, pet expos and fundraisers throughout the year.

If you would like to support GAP or see greyhounds at one of your next events, you can contact Nicky at nicky@gap.org.nz or 027 325 8831. Our professional team has experience attending all sorts of events, we have even brought our greys to school and university to provide much needed exam time stress relief.

Here is what you need to know about Nicky in her own words:

"Hi, I’m Nicky, what a great opportunity to be joining the GAP team as the National Events Coordinator!  I am thrilled to be re-entering the working world now my littlest has recently started school.  To be able to offer my skills while meeting and working with likeminded greyhound lovers New Zealand wide is going to be great!

Originally from the Coromandel, I’ve been living in Hawkes Bay with my family since 2012. Prior to that I worked in the corporate hospitality world in Auckland for many years.  Working life centred around organising large, mostly corporate conferences and managing a team of event co-ordinators.

My relationship with GAP goes back to 2010 when we decided it was the right time to adopt our first dog.  After a little research we knew a greyhound would be the ideal pet for us and Mouse (Sugar Mouse), closely followed by Riley (Utar Big Rig) joined my partner Graeme and I in our home - not far from a fantastic, but mostly unused off lead beach.  The pleasure and entertainment we got from having these two characters in our lives was immense, we were devastated to lose them both only months apart, in 2018.

With home life suddenly down to a dull roar (and nobody to go walking with), giving something back to GAP by offering to foster seemed the way forward. So here we are on dog number four, it’s so enjoyable meeting the dogs and bringing them into our home, helping them to get oriented to family life and seeing them relax and unfold their true personalities.  I’m sad to see them move on when they head off to their forever families, but there’s so much more pleasure in playing a part of their “happily ever after” story.

I look forward to working with the team at GAP and all our dedicated and much appreciated volunteers, please don’t hesitate to contact me for help if you have a greyt fundraising or event idea!"
